Tensions continue on the Korean peninsula today. Now, South Korea is planning a naval drill near the sea border with North Korea, resulting in harsh condemnation from the communist state. Here's more.

On Tuesday, North Korea warned of "strong physical retaliation" against South Korea in response to planned military exercises in the West Sea.

South Korea plans to stage a five-day anti-submarine drill near the sea border with the North from Thursday. It is the area of water where North Korea is suspected of sinking a South Korean warship in March, killing 46 sailors.

The North has denied its involvement in the ship sinking incident.

North Korea's state-run television quoted officials warning commercial vessels to stay away from the area. The North warned that they will take (quote) “strong physical retaliation” to counter any projectiles from South’s planned naval exercises.

The North also threatened to begin what it calls a "sacred war" against the United States and South Korea when the two countries staged joint military drills last week.
