Taliban aims to regain power

Pakistan, August 2: The Taliban ruled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001. The fundamentalists imposed a severe authoritarian rule and it was a nightmare, especially for women and children. The Taliban were ousted by U.S.-led NATO forces that invaded Afghanistan to launch the 'war against terrorism' in 2001 after the 9/11 attack on the U.S in which Taliban had provided support to al-Qaeda. It's been a decade now and the U.S.-led coalition forces continue to fight the Taliban. Thousands of civilians, policemen and soldiers have died, but the Taliban carries on fighting. The leaking of 90,000 classified U.S. Army documents on the website 'Wikileaks' indicate that the U.S. suspects Pakistan of covertly aiding Taliban fighters in Afghanistan.
