Shop owner talks robber out of robbery

A mobile phone store manager in South Florida dissuaded an armed man from robbing the store by telling him Jesus wouldn't approve.

Instead of panicking when the suspect pulled a weapon, Nayara Goncalves started talking to him.

The 20-year-old offered to connect him with friends who could help him find work.

"I have a job," replied the robber. When Goncalves asked him why he was then robbing the store he said, "because I'm going to be evicted if I don't come up with $300."

Goncalves said she believed the man when he said he attended church and wasn't a bad person. She told him the answer to his financial problems wasn't in the cash register in the Pompano Beach store.

"I don't want to do that to you. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I understand if you still have to call the police," the robber said as he walked out of the store empty-handed.

"Jesus helps you. He can change your life," Goncalves responded.
