Formula One world champion Jenson Button has driven a McLaren around the streets of Moscow for grand prix fans.

F1 commercial boss Bernie Ecclestone has said the tour should include Russia. Sochi will host the 2014 Winter Olympics and Russia is bidding to stage the 2018 soccer World Cup.

Ecclestone has previously held discussions about possible F1 races in Moscow and St Petersburg, but nothing came of them.

Button was fourth in last Sunday's British Grand Prix after starting 14th on the grid. His team mate, Lewis Hamilton was second, putting him 12 points ahead of Button in the championship race with nine races remaining.

While a remarkable drive by Button in the circumstances, the 30-year-old still found himself off his home podium for the 11th season in succession.

Russian Formula One rookie Vitaly Petrov was also at Sunday's event, driving a modified three-seater F1 supplied by his Renault team, which has told him that he must start scoring regular points to secure his future with them.

Petrov has scored in only one of his ten races so far, when he finished seventh in China in April for six points. Polish team mate Robert Kubica's tally stands at 83.

Renault have confirmed Kubica as their driver until the end of 2012 but his partner has not been confirmed, with various other names mentioned including former world champion Kimi Raikkonen.
