The island state of the Maldives has been hard hit by climate change. As sea levels rise, the islands face the threat of being submerged. Climate change has also triggered increasingly severe tropical storms and higher storm surges and has led to the contamination of the groundwater with sea water.
But the government refuses to give up and is seeking solutions that will allow its citizens to continue living on the islands. To protect inhabitants from rising sea levels, the authorities are building dams and relocating residents to islands at higher elevations.
