Police Fire Tear Gas to Quell Protesters in Indian Kashmir

    by NTDTelevision

Today police clashed with protesters in Indian Kashmir over the killing of a youth by security forces on Monday.

Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the protesters.

The situation in the mainly Muslim Kashmir valley has been tense over the past week due to repeated clashes between protestors and security forces.

A curfew was imposed last Wednesday in parts of northern and southern Kashmir, including the summer capital, Srinagar.

Kashmir is at the heart of India's dispute with Pakistan. India accuses Pakistan of fuelling unrest in Kashmir.

Pakistan says it only lends moral support to what it calls an independence movement by the Kashmiris.
