On the occasion of the International Polar Year, Olivier Pitras, the first French navigator to sail the Arctic Ice Ocean, and his crew, embark aboard the polar sailboat Southern Star for a year of expedition around the 'North America.
An extraordinary human adventure that takes us to the heart of the related issues
to the current upheavals of the climate.
The “Southern Star”, a 24-meter polar sailboat leaves Tromsø, Norway, high above the Arctic Circle. On board, a crew of ten men and women, sailors from all walks of life. Their goal is to commit to the planet and meet people to find out where everyone is with regard to climate change that all the media are talking about. Is it real? Is it visible? Is it irreversible?
From the Arctic to the Tropics, the expedition has set itself the goal of being a real platform for reflection by going to see on the spot the changes linked to global warming. By following the chronology of the route, the expedition will collect the feelings of the local populations at each stopover, and the scientists will enlighten us on the issues.
From the Inuit to the Kuna Indians, from Silicone Valley to New York, from Vancouver to Miami, everywhere and throughout the 40,000 kilometers of our journey, we have witnessed various initiatives aimed at finding the solutions of tomorrow.
