England fans left Cape Town disappointed as the national side drew their second World Cup group game against Algeria in South Africa.

The performance was lacking in urgency and creativity and chances limited to a few scraps.

An organised and energetic Algerian team were happy to concede territory while limiting opportunities on goal. Frank Lampard failed to put away England's best chance in a half that saw them largely restricted to speculative efforts from Steven Gerrard, Gareth Barry and Wayne Rooney.

The second half began in much the same fashion with England lacking invention, movement and making simple errors.

England finally created a decent chance when Aaron Lennon crossed tantalisingly, only for defender Rafik Halliche to nod behind with Rooney closing in. Emile Heskey later saw a shot deflected over the bar, with Steven Gerrard's header forcing a save from the resulting corner.

In the 58th minute, Jamie Carragher was booked for a dubious tackle on Yebda - the resulting freekick deflected wide.

England must now win their final game against group leaders Slovenia in order to reach the last 16 of the tournament.
