Greenpeace activists demanded justice for whales and their most vocal defenders on World Oceans Day in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Greenpeace activists held a symbolic demonstration holding banners and chanting slogans supporting two anti-whaling activists awaiting trial in Japan.

[Areeda Hamid, Greenpeace Ocean Activist]: (English)
"Japan kills hundreds of whales every year in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary and this is done under the false pretext of scientific whaling, and this entire whale hunt is sponsored by Japanese taxpayers' money, which is worth millions of dollars."

The two Greenpeace activists, Junichi Sato and Toru Suzuki, were arrested in 2008 by Japanese police… for exposing a whale meat scandal involving the government-sponsored whaling program.

The two are being investigated for stealing a box of whale meat, which they presented as evidence.

The duo faces a possible jail term of up to ten years.
