    A friend of mine confided that she was afflicted by crippling vertigo. She said it wasn’t height itself that caused her difficulty, but that when she was high off the ground she had an overwhelming need to know what it would feel like to jump. She didn’t have a death wish -- she just wanted to know what it would feel like to go over the edge. The fact that it could kill her was just an unfortunate side effect. So, her vertigo wasn’t so much a fear of heights as it was the presentation of overwhelming temptation.
