I bought this camcorder and it's indeed cheap (around $150), however, this is definitely a case where you get what you pay for. Image quality is quite poor, but you can't really complain too much for such a low price, and likewise, this camera will still outperform most stuff from 3 - 5 years ago. The 720 (HD) resolution video only looks good when you resize the video window to 2/3 or 1/2 it's original resolution - in other words, "Standard Definition". At full size, it looks like upscaled SD and not true HD. I'm not sure if the hardware is doing some sort of interpolation and not truly recording HD or if the quality is so bad it just looks that way. Either way, a good SD camera will give you a better quality picture overall than this camera. This is probably a good camera for the kids since you won't need to worry as much if it gets lost, broken or stolen.
