Actor John Forsythe has died at the age of 92 following a year-long battle with cancer.

He died on Thursday of complications from pneumonia at his home in Santa Ynez, California, a rural community near Santa Barbara.

Forsythe built a career on stage, television and film that spanned seven decades.

His career began in New York, where he was among the original members of Lee Strasburg's The Actors Studio. In Hollywood Forsythe lent his voice to the character of Charlie in the 1970s detective show Charlie's Angels, and his association with famed producer Aaron Spelling led to his role in the TV drama Dynasty in the 1980s.

Years later he reprised his role as the popular Charlie in two Charlie's Angels films.

A wreath of flowers was placed at Forsythe's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. There fans stopped to pay respects and share memories of the late actor.
