Underprivileged children in India's northeastern Guwahati City learned the tricks of the circus trade on Thursday. A German troupe came to the city on a mission to help deprived children feel more confident.
Children learned how to ride unicycles, climb cloth-ladders and perform acrobatics.
[Martin Karprovic, Waldoni Circus]: (English)
"The aim specifically here is to see the wonderful performance of the circus group and street children. They have learned to do acrobatics over the last couple of weeks, and I am here to see how wonderful they perform, and then continue and visit the few parts of Assam in the next few days."
The Circus Waldoni was brought to India by the Child Aid Network, a German NGO.
The workshop lasted for 10 days.
[Father Lukose Cheruvalel, NGO Official]: (English)
“They became very friendly with the children and they taught children many skills in the circus, and now the children feel very proud to make the presentation. In this manner they have been helping us.”
Father Cheruvalel says the children were able to pick many skills in a very short time.
The Circus Waldoni has a six-member team composed of four women and two men.
