On Wednesday, the weather department in Gujarat, India warned the general public of a severe heat wave that will likely stick around. The temperature reached 109 degrees Fahrenheit in some parts of the state.

Students at one school say they’ve never experienced such hot weather before, especially this time of year.

[Sonali, Student]: (Female, Hindi)
"This time in Rajkot the heat is unbearable. This time in the month of March the temperature is very high and we have not witnessed such heat earlier. In our school whenever we want to study, the sweltering heat and perspiration distract us. We cannot concentrate on our lessons. Also when we leave for our homes after school, we feel very exhausted and we are forced to pass the entire day in utter discomfort."

Even the administrators in most schools are concerned about the students, since they have to appear for their annual exams in April amidst the soaring temperatures.

[Sonalben Shah, School Principal]: (Female, Hindi)
"We are shocked to see that in the month of March the temperature has touched 43 degree Celsius. Also we have our annual exams and we are worried that students may fall ill due to the heat just before the exams. In the first week of June our school reopens and till that time, if it does not rain we don't know how we will cope with the rising temperature."

For the past two days, the day temperature has not gone below 105 degrees Fahrenheit.
