Massive Fire Consumes Huts in India’s Bihar State

A massive blaze tore through hundreds of huts located in India’s Patna City on Wednesday.

As the residents in the cluster of huts saw their abodes going up in flames, they soon realized the intensity of the fire.

One eyewitness believes the fire must have been caused by an unattended wood-burning stove.

[Babita Devi, Eyewitness]:
"They (the residents) must have left after cooking their food, and left the stove burning. The stove probably was close to the wall of the hut - consequently they caught fire. The fire was so severe that the trees, under which the huts were built, were destroyed by it. There has been no help from the administration so far."

Another eyewitness says locals helped to douse the fire.

[Mali Devi, Eyewitness]:
"Over 100 to 150 huts have been gutted in this massive fire and as you can see everything has been destroyed. The government is not reacting. Instead we are filling the buckets of water and we dousing the fire."

Belongings worth thousands of rupees were reportedly destroyed in the blaze.
