Around Paris-Saint-Denis, France -- 2010

"Paris Syndrome" is a recognized mental illness. Certain countries, such as Japan, recognize it as such. People may save for years -- nay, their entire lifetimes -- to see Paris. So many dream of living there, of working there. They long to see the famous streets and sights of gay Paree!

And yet, once they arrive, they might find that Paris is, in fact, NOTHING like what they expected. They are so shocked, and disappointed, they become highly disturbed.

Here are some photos I took in late February, early March, 2010. Saint-Ouen, with its huge tower (home of Siemens corporation), Saint-Denis, and my immediate neighborhood, called "Quartier Saint-Rémy" (which dates back to around the year 700 A.D.) is a "quartier chaud" -- one of those bad suburban Paris neighborhoods. Over 80 languages are spoken here -- few of them are French!

I love it and have been here for 16 years. Had to leave the USA in 1994 to get healthcare.
