    Royal Palace in Southern India Gets a Facelift

    Specialist masons and experts are busy restoring the Thripunithura Hill Palace in Kerala, once the headquarters of the Kochi Royal family.

    "We are concentrating on the restoration of the old four ponds and not only that, we are concentrating on other important buildings including the main museum building, the heritage museum building."

    The palace is surrounded by beautiful gardens on 52 acres of terraced land with ponds, fountains and lawns.

    Attractive lights and more fountains will be added to highlight the landscaping.

    "After the completion of the projects, we are going to introduce one important program, tourist package program, starting from Hill Palace. And it will be an attraction to the general public and mostly public form north that is tourist from the northern area, we are also looking for tourist from abroad also."

    Built in 1865, the complex has an archaeological museum, a heritage museum, a deer park, a pre-historic park and a children's park.

    Officials said that approximately 70 million rupees will be spent on the restoration work. The palace is expected to be ready by the end of the month.
