The chilling calls have started coming again. The long shadow of the underworld seems to back on bookies, builders, other businessmen
ABOUT a week ago, Faisal Sheikh (name changed for security reasons), who runs a real estate business from Mumbais northern suburb Kandivli, got an international call.
His glee at the prospect of an NRI client was shortlived.
Underworld don Ejaz Lakhdawala was on line, believed to be from Canada, asking for Rs 1 crore as protection money (or what he calls good luck during the conversation).
MiD DAY has the tape of the full conversation, as also another extortion call from a member of the much-smaller Ajay Ganda gang made to a city bookie.
The message is clear: the bhais have started calling again. The underworld is clawing its way back to its old habitat, Mumbai.
