More than 140 countries attended this simultaneous extraordinary meetings of the Conferences of the Parties, or ExCOPs, to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions here in Indonesia.
The meetings were held at the Bali International Convention center in Nusa Dua.
Indonesian Minister of Environment Gusti Mohammad Hatta opened the convention last Monday.
The purpose of the convention was to deal with the handling of dangerous waste and toxic chemicals.
The environment minister said Indonesia has been playing a role in environmental management initiatives and cooperation for over 20 years. It's included the implementation of Multilateral Environmental Agreements.
Indonesia is also a signatory of several international conventions, including UNFCCC, the Biodiversity Convention, and the Basel and Stockholm Conventions.
To ensure full implementation of the three ExCOPs conventions, Indonesia is ready to share and contribute all the resources to guarantee the success of the convention.
The convention is important to Indonesia ito protect public health and the environment from the effects of cross-border movement of waste materials and hazardous chemicals.
