India's Freezing Winter Woes

Locals from India's north face a tough time enduring hostile weather conditions.

On Sunday, lows reached three degrees Fahrenheit in the Kargil district in Kashmir.

[Abdul Khalid, Ladakh Resident]:
"I have been living in Ladakh for the past 20 years. It's been 10 years since winter last touched an all-time low. The temperature has reached -14."

Temperatures around China and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir are ranging from zero to negative 13.

The intense cold has affected tourism in the city with snow-covered roads making it difficult to commute.

[Medhi Ali, Kargil Resident]:
"Tourists who used to come here from the nearby cities are now staying away because of the severe cold. In Drass, water kept in buckets outside is frozen."

The temperature in Drass got as cold as -11 degrees.
