Secret Cinema: London's New Film Experience
  • 14 years ago
We go now to London, where our correspondent has stumbled upon a unique cinema experience. Let's take a look.

This is not Chicago in 1929, this is London’s best kept secret. Movie enthusiasts gather monthly at a mysterious venue to be part of a new trend in film experience. This is Secret Cinema, not your regular multiplex experience...

[Fabian Riggall, Secret Cinema Founder]:
“We take a film and we create a world of that film setting. So the audience see that film in that world rather than see it in a world which is slightly removed...i.e. the multiplex escalator that takes you up through the shiny confectionary stands.”

Secret Cinema’s actors and audience appear to blend into one another.

[Alice Knapton, Secret Cinema Actress]:
“I would love to be part of the audience because it’s not only coming to watch a film, the world of the film is brought to you. So you can totally forget about reality and just of sort of come and be someone else in a different time and a different place. Which is brilliant!”

[Karen Emery, Audience]:
“When you came to see the film you could recognize every single set that they had put up. And it felt very much like being part of the film. It was great.”

Tonight’s movie was Bugsy Malone, and the final pie fighting was a great surprise.

Secret Cinema has plans to expand to other countries. Next stop New York. So, don’t keep the secret to yourself.
