The rumour mill started churning after from Cowell's older brother, Tony Cowell, hinted in his weekly podcast the judge might be finishing up idol in his ninth season, which airs this January. The study of 800 viewers revealed 58% who said they wouldn’t watch the show if Cowell left.

“I watch it, but most of the time, when I watch it, it’s to see what he has to say, other than that, I mean I might still tune in, but Simon’s a big reason for that.”

But that’s not all, Cowell is reportedly keen to bring his wildly popular british talent show “The X Factor” to American audiences.

In a statement Cowell’s Spokesperson commented: “There are discussions going on with American idol and also about the possibility of bringing “The X Factor” to the United States, but no decisions have been made and nothing has been finalized.”

This season, over 30 million Americans will tune in to see new judge Ellen DeGeneres, who replaced Paula Abdul from last season. Viewers are looking forward to the verbal sparring between controversial Cowell and Hollywood’s funniest talk show host.
