Stranded Spanish Air Passengers Protest in Peru

8 years ago489 views

For the third day straight, these angry passengers are protesting at the Spanish embassy in Lima.

They were left stranded in Peru because of the collapse of Spanish airline Air Comet.

Hundreds of other Air Comet travellers in Madrid and Latin American airports were placed on other flights.

But for a few who had booked on later dates there are no other flights back to Spain.

Now they blame their government for their troubles.

[Spanish Citizen]:
"The Spanish government is to blame for letting the company sell tickets when they knew it was bankrupt. When I bought the tickets no one told me it was going to fold. They didn't give me any information."

This passenger’s child has missed his operation on a brain tumour.

[Jacquelyn Minaya, Stranded Passenger]:
"I have a child who is sick. They have to operate on him. Here it says that I have to operate on December 29."

Now the disgruntled passengers will have to pay $1500 for return trips on Iberian airlines.

Spain's public works ministry had suspended Air Comet's operating license before Christmas.

The airline owes 17 million Euros to a German bank.
