Melanie Mitchell, senior vice president of search strategy at interactive media and marketing firm Digitas, was a presenter and moderator at the recently concluded PubCon 2009 search and social media marketing conference in Las Vegas. WebmasterWorld video content producer Vanessa Zamora caught up with Mitchell during the busy PubCon event for a video interview. Mitchell shared her thoughts on the success of PubCon and her role leading the paid and organic search efforts at Digitas, a global firm owned by Publicis Groupe. Mitchell joined Digitas after nearly five years helping the paid and organic search efforts working at Network Solutions, and was the vice president of search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM) at AOL. During their interview Mitchell told Zamora some of the things that she feels set PubCon apart from other large technology conferences, such as the willingness of PubCon attendees to share information about the next big things for businesses in search and social media marketing, and the unusual number of helpful, friendly and varied perspectives from PubCon attendees who come from many backgrounds including agencies, public relations firms, social media, and even traditional media. Mitchell, who manages the Digitas Search Engine Marketing Knowledge Center, also spoke about the switch from working on the client side to the agency side, a move that she says has been an exciting opportunity for her to help clients using a disciplined approach and the world-class analytics and proprietary tools Digitas offers.
