South Korean media says American human rights activist Robert Park has been arrested in North Korea.
Before setting off, the 28-year-old Christian told reporters he wants the world to know about North Korea’s concentration camps. And that he feels it’s his duty to liberate North Korean prisoners of conscience.
[Robert Park, Human Rights Activist]:
"The concentration camps have to be liberated. Until then I do not want to come out. If I have to die with them, I will. You know, I'm a Christian and in the Bible, it says that we must love the lost. We must love the poor and needy. We must love them more than ourselves, if we're truly Christians.”
Park said he wanted to be arrested in order to pressure governments to address the suffering of the North Korean people. North Korea is known for its unlawful and arbitrary public executions to intimidate people who oppose the communist state.
There has been no official comment from North Korea on the incident.
