8 years ago142 views

New Delhi has been witnessing cold and foggy mornings for over a week now.

Poor people living on the pavements are facing the icy-cold weather by burning pieces of wood and blankets.

[Sanjay Shukla, Local]:
“It has been extremely cold for the last 4-5 days. The weather has become hostile.”

People are having a tough time gathering pieces of firewood.

[Raj Mishra, Local]:
“The weather is icy-cold. I was able to gather firewood with great difficulty and managed to pass the night.”

Meanwhile, in the neighboring city of Noida, a bus collided with a truck due to poor visibility. Around 40 people including children were injured in the accident.

[Ran Kumar Yadav, Witness]:
“All of us were traveling in the bus that was overcrowded. Around 7-9 girls in the bus were seriously injured. 3 or 4 children standing in the front of the bus suffered severe injuries.”

On Sunday, the temperatures were slightly higher than the season's low on Saturday at 42 degrees Fahrenheit.

Most parts of northern India are experiencing chilly days as the mercury dipped amid foggy conditions.

Winter temperatures can at times prove deadly in India, where thousands of homeless live in shacks, without any heating arrangements.
