Pope Celebrates Spain’s Holy Family Day

Pope Benedict XVI Addressed worshippers on Sunday at the Vatican marking the Holy Family Day in Spain.

He reaffirmed his support for marriage and traditional family during his Angeles message.

[Pope Benedict XV1, Leader of Roman Catholic Church]:
“As Jesus was born in a family, he shows that this institution represents a secure way to meet and know him. As Christians, we can give evidence to our contemporary brothers about the importance of the family based on marriage between a man and a woman. And we are called to boost and defend it (family).”

Security was visibly tighter following a recent attack on the pontiff. The Pope was pulled to the ground by a woman who jumped the fence as he was walking towards the altar of St. Peter’s basilica to celebrate Christmas mass.

After prayers, the Pope offered greetings in several languages.

Soon after the noon event, the pontiff moved on to a charity soup kitchen run by a lay Catholic group based in central Rome, to have lunch with the poor.
