3D desktop on Mandriva cooker, using Xgl and compiz.
This works out of the box by installing the x11-server-xgl and compiz packages, and restarting the X server.

I can see some advantage to scaling windows into the distance instead of the binary icon/normal we've had for the past decade, but I really don't see any advantage to wavy jell-o panels, or see how the cube flip-box is functionally any different from alt-arrow desktop switching. Seems like a terribly high processing price to pay for very little usability gain.

If Mandriva wants to be truly innovative and groundbreaking, give us a computing environment where we don't have to name every stupid little object and abolish 'folders' forever; instead, how about we just take "this photo" from "here" and maybe scale it, whitebalance it, print it, and put it "there" for later. I am so tired of thinking up unique and meaningful names for things which, in realspace, have no need of propernouns or uniquely named locations -- let the machine take care of all that database muck, and just let me work with my digital stuff.

You never know what comes first: a hen or an egg - Mac OS X is UNIX based! So is linux... To say nothing of how much things mac-style interface borrowed from gnome and kde desktop. Fortunately, the software patents are not at force (yet?)

What is up with everything becoming "Macish".... First Vista and now Mandriva... both emulating, for the most part, a mac-style interface... 3D cube spining desktop manager, animated window sizing, and switching to other programs by showing them all small on the same screen... COME ON.. that is Mac's Expose.. total rip-off. Why not just buy a Mac! Besides, Vista I know requires WAY too many resouces to TRY and re-create a Mac style interface... not sure about Mandriva, but sounds like it needs a high end PC. Just not cutting it!

Looking great! I was not able to make it work on my PC though. I suspect X issues with my nvidia card. Maybe updates will correct this.
What is these raindrops screensaver? What is the package? Cool!

Hi earnest,
Mandriva 2006.0 (10.2) was the last release but '2007' was just officially released within the last month give or take a week?.

As usual though you have to buy the PowerPack to get the NVidia driver packages etc in the self-installing 'on-install' drivers.
