The Social Democrats are in terrible shape. The election saw support for Germany’s second-largest party drop 11 percent since four years ago. Less than 25 percent of the electorate backed the SPD.The party seems to have lost its way – it lacks direction,convincing leadership and a clear agenda. It’s now planning to take stock and reinvent itself in opposition – and to take a long,hard look at its relationship to the Left Party.
