Global 3000 | Ahmici – Can There Ever Be Reconciliation?
Ahmici is a small village near the city of Sarajevo. In 1993 it was the scene of a massacre - Bosnian Croats attacked Bosnian Muslims. After the bloodbath, there wasn't a single Muslim left in the village.116 people were killed, most of them women, children and the elderly. The rest fled the scene. Many returned after the war. Today Croats and Muslims once again live and work side by side. Many in Ahmici say it's not easy to forgive, but they want to look to the future now and not live in the past. An international tribunal may bring the perpetrators to justice, but reconciliation must also happen on a national level.
