British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has fended off calls to send more troops and equipment to Afghanistan.
Brown says U-K has enough manpower and equipment on the ground for the ongoing operation in Afghanistan. Brown was speaking in the House of Commons following reports that eight more British soldiers died in a 24-hour period last week. The increase in soldiers' fatality has raised questions over the mission's purpose and resources. Britain has about eight thousand soldiers in Afghanistan and has lost over 184 soldiers since it joined the U-S-led war in Afghanistan in 2001.
