Casper Dillinger came to America from Hesse, Germany as a Hessen fighting soldier, in service, by force, of the British. Realizing that this was the wrong side, he choose freedom and justice and crossed the Delaware river to join George Washington and the rest of the Patriots.

After the Revolutionary War was won, Casper, whom later generations changed the last name to simply Dilling, settled in Blair County, Pennsylvania near what is today a town called Martinsburg. He was know as a pioneer of the township and well respected, especially for his hunting skills and knowledge, which it is said, locals from all around would come to him for advice.

Here we search for his resting place. We find it; but it is not so simple to see his grave as we would have liked... we talk to a local about the economy and get more details on this old grave-site and deserted village.
And see many other Dillings' in our direct family tree. (And Brumbaugh, Hoover's, Huntsman, etc)

Casper Dillinger is likely a fore-father of the infamous most wanted FBI bank robber, John Dillinger.
