00:00Narinig mo na ba itong international award called The Diana Award na ipinangalan itong award after the late Princess Diana?
00:08At kinoconsider siyang the most prestigious accolade a young person can achieve for their social action or humanitarian work globally.
00:16Ang bad-eye Mars.
00:17Oh, di ba Mars?
00:18At ang mas nakaka-wow dito, isang Pinay ang recently ay nabigyan ito dahil nakapag-raise at namigay siya ng 200,000 bags of food and relief goods
00:28sa mga kababayan niyang nawalan ng trabaho during the pandemic.
00:32Kaya sabay-sabay po natin i-welcome ang ating Mars of the Hour, Chantel Nicole Nieto.
00:39Hi, Chantel. Good morning.
00:42Hi, good morning. Good morning.
00:44Hi, Chantel. Congratulations naman. Wow.
00:47Wow.
00:47For you to be given this award. Okay, sir, how did it come about?
00:51Bakit mo naisip na gawin ito at saka paano mo ginawa?
00:54So, my family and I, actually my full name is Chantel Nicole Martinez Nieto.
01:00So, Nieto is my family name.
01:02But my family and I started the food program after realizing that because of the lockdowns,
01:07a lot of people will be losing their livelihoods.
01:10And when they lose their livelihood and source of income, especially if you live hand to mouth,
01:16it's going to be very, very difficult for you to feed your family.
01:19And initially, thinking that the lockdown is going to last for a month,
01:23we didn't think that it would be good to be able to just leave our fellow countrymen
01:32and our kababayans to sort of fend for themselves.
01:35So, my family and I started the food program in order to try to provide as much support
01:40to our una kababayans in Kainta as much as we can.
01:45Oh, okay. But are you also from Kainta?
01:47Yes?
01:48Apo, apo. Nagkakainta din po.
01:50Oh, wow. Oh, wow.
01:51Okay. What's our reason? You heard about this?
01:54I have. I have.
01:56Kaya magusto ko din malaman kung paano nakarating ang pangalan mo sa nominees for the Diana Awards.
02:03I actually started my social impact work way back in 2015.
02:08So, my friends and I founded this organization called BNB Solutions
02:11in order to provide our communities with electricity and water.
02:14Because of my work in BNB, I became part of the Global Changemakers Association in 2017
02:20and then the Dalai Lama Fellowship in 2018.
02:24These two organizations, after seeing my work in the pandemic
02:27as well as my work in the field of sustainability here in the country,
02:31nominated me for the Diana Award this year.
02:34Wow. Actually, I'm so curious, you know, like, I mean,
02:39because I'm sure a lot of people have been wanting to also do their,
02:42do what they can to also help.
02:44But, you know, sometimes we don't know where to begin or how to go about it.
02:49So, how, how did it start?
02:51Like, did you work, did you ask for help from other people or like, how?
02:55Yeah, I mean, for our Mars and Mars out there who might also be wanting to start a program like yours.
03:02We started with our initial network of people.
03:05So, we initially contacted their friends, corporations, and organizations that we knew
03:10in order to obtain our initial supply of donations.
03:14So, we started at the very first week of the lockdown with about 5,000 face masks,
03:19I think 500 pieces of bread, and about 20 boxes of chocolate snacks.
03:24And then, we continued documenting everything, creating the transparency reports as necessary.
03:30And we used our initial traction in order to get more corporate and organizational partners
03:34to support our countrymen.
03:37I guess what I can say is because the need was very apparent during the lockdown,
03:43it wasn't that difficult to obtain support because so many people, organizations, and families
03:49really wanted to provide their support, but was just looking for avenues to search for those.
03:54So, we acted as bridges, and then just continued going.
03:58And, ladies and gentlemen, we have our new Miss Universe.
04:03Totoo!
04:03I was gonna say, yung sagot ni Shontel, parang pang-pudget.
04:08Yes!
04:08Yung ganda at yung sagot niya, pang-pudget Mars, you are the next Miss Inconciliation.
04:31and all those things.
04:32So, buti na lang may ganon din.
04:34Okay.
04:35Um, Dayana, Dayana!
04:37Dayana!
04:37Dayana, no!
04:39Dayana, no!
04:40Princess Dayana!
04:41Do you have any questions for her, mga Mars?
04:43Ilan taon ka na ba?
04:44Shontel?
04:46Um, I'm 25 years old.
04:48Wow, 25 and so giving up.
04:50May boyfriend ka na ba, Shontel?
04:52Wala po, wala po.
04:54Oh, ayan na, mga Mars.
04:56Look at where her heart is, Mars.
04:58Kapakilala kita sa kapalid ko, Shontel.
05:00Bakalang, ano, friends lang naman, no pressure.
05:04Naalo ko, Mars!
05:06At the age of 25, and I'm sure she was doing this like years before.
05:10How old were you when you started doing these kinds of efforts?
05:12Um, I started with my friends when I was 19.
05:15So, we started with the Hulk Prize for B&B Solutions
05:18when we were providing our communities with electricity and water.
05:21Ang galing.
05:22Ang galing.
05:23No further questions.
05:24That's okay.
05:25No further questions.
05:26Pasok na or no.
05:27Pasok ka na sa next time.
05:29Uh-oh.
05:30Shontel, I'm just wondering, are there perks?
05:33To, uh, of course, from being a recipient of this Dayana Award?
05:37Uh, yes, there are perks.
05:38So, we received certificates and pins from the Dayana Award.
05:42But at the same time, we enter into this mentorship program
05:45wherein the Dayana Award works with us
05:48in order to develop our leadership abilities
05:50and our ability to impact their communities more
05:52on a local and global scale.
05:55Speak so well.
05:58Diba?
05:59That's so confident and she really knows what she's talking about.
06:02Yes.
06:03Because it's really where her heart is.
06:04Yeah.
06:05Where her heart is.
06:06At this point,
06:07kung ano mong sabihin niya, maniniwala na mo.
06:08Ako din.
06:09Soul.
06:10Gagawa ramin niya.
06:11Shontel.
06:12Shontel.
06:13Yeah.
06:14Ano ka ibabenta mo?
06:15Sige, bibili niya ramin yan lahat.
06:16Mababudol mo kami lahat, Shontel.
06:18We believe in you.
06:19So, ngayon, tuloy-tuloy pa rin ba yung community programs mo?
06:23As of today, ilan na ba ang inyong natulungan?
06:26So, as of today, our food program is still running.
06:29We've been able to distribute about 1.1 million goods to about 400,000 people across seven cities.
06:35So, we started with Kainta, but with community leaders from other areas and other cities, we were also able to expand our operations there.
06:44We've also been supporting about 1,000 frontliners across seven hospitals across the zone.
06:50And we're still going, we're still going.
06:51We're getting more partners in the form of corporations and NGOs that supply us with constant sources of food and packed meals,
06:59which we immediately distribute to our community's frontliners and to whoever they want us to distribute the food to.
07:06For those who might be needing your help, Shontel, or you gusto magtumulong sa inyo?
07:12For those who want to help and also for those who might need your help, how can they find you?
07:18So, for those who want to ask for our help, especially those from Kainta, they usually message us on social media.
07:25So, I talk to the Kaintanians everyday via Facebook Messenger to ask about their needs and to know more about what they need.
07:32So, they can definitely message me on social media, on Facebook primarily, so I can be more cognizant of their needs.
07:39For those who might want to help, they can also just contact me on social media or send me an email.
07:44So, I'm all over the place, like I'm on LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, we have our website.
07:49So, they can contact me through there and then we can arrange ways by which we could partner together and work towards having them assist our community.
07:58So, we really work with corporations and organizations that have extra stock or inventory that sayang naman po, no?
08:05If they go to waste, so might as well have us redistribute it to our community.
08:10So, for anyone who might be interested in stuff like that, they can always approach us and we'll find a way to work together.
08:17Chantel, thank you. You are truly an inspiration.
08:20You are such an angel.
08:22Dahil Jan, slow clap.
08:24Slow clap.
08:26Chantel, thank you so much for being with us this morning.
