High Steppers - I 'Wanna' Sing About You

Little is known about this Crown house band. Pianist Russ Carlson led a series of fine dance-band recordings for them during 1929-1933. The soloists (who probably include trumpeter Mannie Klein, trombonist Miff Mole, clarinetist Tony Parenti, and tenor saxophonist Larry Binyon) mostly played melodically. This excellent record was made in 1931. Vocal by Bill Cody.

Fred, thank you for your explanatory comment; personally I don't have a problem with the r's or the vibrato, but obviously Ballew and Feldkamp are "playing in a higher league" and would have sung a superior vocal.

My problem is three fold His nasal pronunciations as you noted, his excessive vibrato and he rolls his R's. How much better would this have sounded with Ballew or Feldkamp I ask? As always only my opinion.

Lou, thank you for reposting your comment; Freddie Rich is lovely as well.

Fred, I know his nasal pronunciation can be annoying at times, but basically he has a fine voice timbre and I was really pleased with this performance.

Cody actually does a decent job with this. That in itself is remarkable.

Bob, I've never heard the Bullock version, but I'm sure it is excellent too.

Thank you Genia for your appreciation of this wonderfully romantic song. Those posters are brilliant indeed, and I almost knem the picture of the "woman in the moon" would be your favorite.

Ginny, I'm so glad you are fond of this utterly sweet song, and Coty is singing particularly lovely vocal here. I had a lot of fun choosing all those 1920's pictures, many are so stunningly modern or timeless aren't they.

I have this song by Chick Bullock and it sounds pretty similar.
