British pop star Elton John, who has established foundations in both the United States and the United Kingdom to combat the AIDS epidemic, gave the keynote address at the Biotechnology Industry Organizations annual convention Tuesday. The foundations have raised more than $150 million to support HIV prevention and treatment programs in 55 countries. John said the world’s governments and industry are ignoring reality when it comes to AIDS and urged policies that would expand access to HIV treatment and testing as well as education. One in three new infections occur in people under 30, John said. To see clips of the speech go to, www.moreaboutthat.info
