Scores of people have been injured in a military crackdown on anti-government protesters in the Thai capital, Bangkok.

Shots were fired and petrol bombs and stones hurled as soldiers and demonstrators clashed in the early hours of Monday near a major intersection in the city, and the government has vowed to "increase the momentum" of its crackdown on protesters.

Peeraphong Saicheau, the director of the Bangkok Medical Centre, said 77 people had been injured, with 19 admitted to hospitals
