Cameo - Candy

Larry Blackmon est né à New York où il fréquente un club appelé l'Apollo de Harlem pendant sa jeunesse. C'est là qu'il se passionne pour ses vedettes préférées comme James Brown, Jackie Wilson, Otis Redding et bien d'autres. Après le lycée, il entre à la Juilliard School of Music. Il gagne sa vie à coté comme batteur pour divers groupes locaux. C'est avec le groupe East Coast Band (ECB) renommé ensuite New York City Players qu'il fait la connaissance du claviériste Greg Johson. A eux deux ils forment alors le groupe Cameo en 1974.

Au bout de quelques mois seulement ils signent leur premier contrat avec Chocolate City, label de la maison de production disco Casablanca. Le succès de leur single 'Find my way' ne dépasse pas les discothèques de New York. C'est avec la sortie de l'album Cardiac Arrest en 1977 avec des titres plus funky comme 'Rigor mortis' et 'Post mortem' que la notoriété du groupe traverse les frontières américaines.
