Alan Shearer was in attendance to watch Newcastle's win over Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Eddie Howe's side booked their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win in West London.

Former striker Shearer was spotted in the away crowd in the latter stages of the match and was all smiles.

He would typically be in the BBC studio as a pundit, but with ITV the selected broadcaster for the match, the 53-year-old enjoyed a night off to watch his side.

Shearer scored 206 goals in 405 games for his boyhood club over a decade-long spell, becoming the Premier League's all-time goalscorer in that time.

He would have been impressed with what he saw from Newcastle as they returned to winning ways following poor form before their two-week break.

Sean Longstaff broke the deadlock against Marco Silva in the 39th minute side with a half-volley which was followed by a VAR review.

Dan Burn doubled the lead with a close-range finish shortly after the hour mark to ensure Newcastle advanced to the last 16 of the FA Cup for just the second time in 18 years.

Howe's side will seek to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they visit Aston Villa on Tuesday night.
