Police officer responding to another call rush towards burning house to rescue residents

A police officer rushed to rescue several residents after he spotted a house on fire.

Bodycam footage shows the moment the officer who was responding to another call ran towards the blaze and evacuated four people.

The blaze, in the Hilltop area in Columbus, Ohio, started after the porch of the building caught fire on the 60 block of South Richardson Avenue around 4:15 a.m.

One woman was taken to hospital in a critical condition and treated for burns and smoke inhalation - but police confirmed her condition has since improved.

The Columbus Police Division said on Facebook: "While responding to another call in the Hilltop overnight, Columbus Police officers noticed a house on fire.

"Without hesitation, they rushed to help rescue multiple people inside the burning residence.

"Their bravery and quick thinking saved lives today, reminding us all of the selflessness and dedication our officers show day in and day out."
