Europe's Emily Pedersen makes history at the Solheim Cup by hitting a sensational hole-in-one - just the second in the tournament's history - to give trailing Europe hope against the USA in Spain

Europe's Emily Pedersen made history at the Solheim Cup, by hitting a hole-in-one for only the second time in the tournament's history.

The Danish golfer's history-making moment came on the 12th hole, as Pedersen hit a tee shot that landed on the edge of the green, before spinning sideways and dribbling down into the hole.

It sparked wild celebrations from the 27-year-old and her European team, led by captain Suzann Pettersen, who had included Pedersen as one of her wild picks for the team.

Pedersen was playing with Swede Maja Stark against Team USA's Jennifer Kupcho and Allisen Corpuz, and her ace drew the European's level in their match-up after a disappointing start for the team in Finca Cortesin.

Petterson's team trailed 4-0 in the foursomes, with Pedersen and Charley Hull going down 5 &4 to Cheyenne Knight and Ally Ewing to give USA a commanding lead.

However, the hole-in-one seemed to spur Europe on as they fought back to trail the USA 5-3 at the end of the first day.

The hole-in-one was the second time the feat had been achieved at the Solheim Cup, with the previous ace also being hit by a European.

Swedish golfer Anna Nordqvist recorded the historic moment during the 2013 Solheim Cup at the Colorado Golf Club.

Nordqvist's 187-yard 7-iron helped her and partner Caroline Hedwall beat Paula Creamer and Morgan Pressel 2 and 1 in the Saturday foursomes as Europe defeated USA 18-10 at the tournament a decade ago. .....
