High Performance Model, 610 Hp, New BMW iX M60 SUV 2024

2024 BMW iX
Starting from $88,095

One of the best electric SUVs can be found in BMW's showroom right now. The iX is a mid-size SUV similar in size to the brand's famous X5, but it has two electric motors instead of a single gasoline engine. Entry-level xDrive50 models offer 516 horsepower, but in true BMW style, a performance-oriented M60 trim with 610 ponies is also available. The iX's front seats are plush and extremely comfortable for long-distance drives; Additionally, hands-free driving mode makes such driving tasks even easier.

The iX brings updates for 2024 to its Professional Parking Assistant feature, which allows the buyer to park the SUV remotely via a smartphone app. The system offers the driver a one-touch parking option by remembering up to 10 different locations and the maneuvers the iX must perform to park in that location.

Two different versions of iX are offered; the first is the xDrive50, powered by a pair of electric motors that combine to produce 516 horsepower; all-wheel drive is standard. In our testing, the iX xDrive50 hit 60 mph in just 4.0 seconds. The high-performance model, called the M60, offers a whopping 610 horsepower, which we estimate is enough to propel the midsize SUV to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds . Adjustable air suspension and rear-wheel steering are optional on the entry-level xDrive 50 and standard on the M60.

The Bimmer SUV is about the same size as the company's midsize X5 and X6 crossovers, and passenger and cargo space is similar to those models, too. The iX's interior design is both simple and modern, with a number of high-tech elements such as the large curved touchscreen instrument cluster and hexagon-shaped steering wheel. BMW offers an optional large panoramic sunroof with electrochromic shading; This is a tricky feature only found in a few tools. The power front seats are also heated and have integrated speakers for the iX's stereo system. Both faux leather and genuine leather upholstery are offered, but BMW also offers a textile seat fabric option called Loft, which uses microfiber fabric.

The iX was initially the launch pad for BMW's iDrive 8 infotainment software but has since offered a free over-the-air update to iDrive 8.5. The software enables customization of menus and graphics, as well as a voice-activated assistant. The large 14.9-inch infotainment screen combines with the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster to create the iX's high-tech instrument panel design. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the board, and BMW also offers a Wi-Fi hotspot with 5G cellular connectivity. An 18-speaker Harman/Kardon stereo system is standard; A 30-speaker Bowers & Wilkins setup is an option.
