    Jazzgirl, indeed; some of Abe Lyman's 20's recordings were incredibly hot. As an example, I'm going to upload 'Shake That Thing' in a Lyman arrangement that is almost perplexing for 1926. Obviously, rock 'n roll wasn't that revolutionary as is generally thought. When hearing Lyman, it becomes clear it is a direct spin-off of hot shimmy arrangements of the 20's.

    Yes, I have the King Oliver Dixie Syncopators version too and along with this Lyman recording they are both very hot renditions of this song. I think they were probably using the same arrangement. I wish I had more recordings by Abe Lyman. Fortunately, I have all the recordings by King Oliver's Dixie Syncopators including the unissued Doctor Jazz.

    Jazzgirl, I had another version by King Oliver. This version is excellent too, actually the arrangement is similar. Thank you for sharing!
