Finland has begun modernizing the railway leading to Sweden. It is assumed that the renewal of the railway track will speed up the transfer of NATO equipment to the country in the event of a conflict with Russia. They plan to invest €37 million in the project, to complete it next year. Finland joined the North Atlantic Alliance in April, Sweden's application to join the bloc has not yet been ratified due to Turkey's position.
