St Mura's graveyard in Fahan

  • last year
St. Mura was the first Abbot of Fahan. The monastery was apparently named after the river 'Othan' that ran by where the abbey stood. He is reputed to have died in 645AD and a Celtic cross marking his grave still stands in St. Mura's graveyard today.
Agnes Jones, a pioneering nurse who inspired Florence Nightingale, is also buried in the graveyard.
