There is poverty in any and all countries. I never said there wasn't poverty in Cuba in the 1950's. What country do you consider was developed in the 50's? The US?? Do some research, and you will see that Cuba was just as developed as the US. My views are completely democratic because it is THE ONLY system I know. Your argument makes no sense. I believe that if you work hard, you can achieve what you want. If you are lucky to be able to get an education, and work hard you can achieve even more. EVERYONE should be entitled to that. Communism doesn't allow that. If the man that created the "chuchufleta" was able to go to school, or even have a job that would allow him to explore his skills, he wouldn't be living in a shack in the middle of the woods. However, let's just say he decided never to leave the countryside, if Castro wasn't there to begin with the "country people" would have had power by now. Easy to speak how beautiful it is as you sit in front of your PC with AC.

For your information, salome56...Cuba WAS NOT a third world country!!! It was one of the most advanced countries in the Americas. However, Fidel Castro did a fine job of bringing down a whole country. To think that there are still fools out there that seem to think that socialism and communism is an ideal form of government. I guess it is....EVERYONE is equally poor, and hungry.

This is a beautiful film about human ingenuity. There is electricity in most of the Sierra Maestra - it's just not available in all of the remote areas. That is true in most of the third world. Just enjoy the simplicity of the people in their joy at having something most of us take for granted.
