Truscalina Brown - Silas Leachman (1902)

  • el año pasado
Recorded on December 6, 1901 and featured here on an early single sided 7-inch Victor Record, this is early comic recording artist, Silas Leachman, with "Truscalina Brown". Leachman's recording career was relatively brief (perhaps 5 years?) and his few Victor recordings from 1901 to 1904 are quite scarce and coveted, especially in good playing condition as this one is. His specialty was black comic songs (in his day referred to as "coon songs"). I own most of his early Victor recordings. This particular recording is unusual in that it features piano with chimes! And the chimes are actually well recorded for such primitve recording technology of the time. Also of note is Leachman's own introduction as "by Little Silas Leachman...". The phonograph is a very late rear mount Victor type 'E' with 8-inch turntable. The Victor E was equipped with a rugged double spring motor and, for its size could play circles around other small phonographs of similar size and cost. Thanks for stopping in and I hope that you enjoy the video.
