TikTok Faces $16M Fine in UK for Misuse of Kids' Data

TikTok was fined 12.7 million pounds ($15.9 million) by U.K. privacy regulators for misusing children's data. In 2020, the app allowed 1.4 million children under the age of 13 to use the app despite the platform's age restrictions. U.K. Information Commissioner John Edwards stated that the company did not do enough to "check who was using their platform or take sufficient action." A spokesperson for TikTok said that the company employs over 40,000 safety team members "to help keep the platform safe for our community."
