Duo of humpback whales breach in quick succession off the coast of Hawaii

A pair of humpback whales - a mother and her young offspring - amazed onlookers after they each breached the surface in quick succession.

The huge mammals made the splash during a whale-watching tour in Lahaina, Maui, off the coast of Hawaii, USA.

Account executive Vicki Kysella, 57, originally from Los Angeles, California, captured the stunning moment and described it as "pure euphoria".

She said: "This is a mom and baby, also called a cow and calf pair.

"We knew this because they had previously breached in the distance and you could really see the difference in size.

"They then swam closer to us, baby breached a few more times and then the magic happened!

"Out of nowhere, Mama shocked us all with a giant breach followed by the baby’s breach right next to our boat.

"If you take a look at each whale’s pectoral fin you can also see the baby’s fin is much stubbier - because the baby was much closer to the boat it looks as large as mom."

The footage was captured on January 20.
