Five people - including a child - have been shot at the Krewe of Bacchus Parade in New Orleans ahead of the City's world-famous Mardi Gras festival.

A child was among the victims and at least one person is in critical condition after a gunman opened fire on the parade.

The parade is part of the city's lead-up to Mardi Gras and took place on Sunday, February 19.

Footage shows the aftermath as police cordoned off the scene on St. Charles Avenue and Terpsichore Street.

New Orleans Police Department confirmed that one male had been arrested at the scene.

The victims, one girl and four adults, had been taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The parade is held every year on the Sunday before Mardia Gras and this year involved 32 floats and at least 1600 crew members.
