An Indian national was found dead among the debris in Malatya on February 11. Family of the deceased mourned his demise, at their residence in Uttarakhand’s Kotdwar. The deceased identified as Vijay Kumar was on a business trip to Turkey, where a powerful earthquake hit on February 6.

Friend of the deceased said, “We got a call from the Turkey Embassy asking for some identification mark to recognise the body they found under the rubble. Then, after giving the information they confirmed that Vijay is no more with us. He left for Turkey on January 22 on a business trip and was meant to return on February 20. As airplane services are not available right now, his body will be sent to us within 2-3 days.”
